BIG MOUNTAIN NON-COMPETITION

Loveland Ski Club's Big Mountain Non-Competition Program is built for the intermediate-to-advanced skier who desires to learn the foundational and mountain skills to become a proficient expert skier in all terrain. This program helps instill a lifelong passion for skiing all terrain in all conditions, with confidence.

Ages 9-18

For the intermediate-to-advanced skier, ages 9-18, who want to take their skiing to the next level. This team will introduce athletes to big mountain skiing and proficiency in skiing the entire mountain. The Big Mountain Team focuses on mountain skills and becoming a proficient expert skier, able to ski all terrain and all conditions safely. This team trains on Saturdays in the expansive terrain and varying conditions that Loveland Basin provides. Highly qualified and experienced coaches will guide athletes in foundational skills, technique, control and awareness to become knowledgeable skiers. Athletes will practice mountain skills to enhance safety and success in the mountains and can expect to gain knowledge in areas such as tree skiing, steeps, moguls, navigating natural features, exposed terrain, cornices, hike-to terrain and avalanche awareness. Team members will gain the confidence to be proficient life-long skiers at a high level. Athletes joining this team should be able to, and have a desire to, ski greens, blues and most blacks in all weather conditions with relative confidence. Members must have all-mountain skis, poles, well-fitting boots and helmet to participate. This team does not participate in competitions and does not train to compete. This program helps instill a lifelong passion for skiing all terrain in all conditions with confidence.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Athletes will be guided through a continuous progression of skills through the use of individualized coaching and drills which are designed to help them advance their skills while skiing all over the mountain. Teaching progressions are designed around the Loveland Ski Club Method of Progression.

GUIDED FREESKIING: As each athlete grows in skill and ability, they will be exposed to a variety of more challenging snow conditions, lessons and drills, and terrain. This includes bumps, steeps, variable snow conditions, deep powder, open glades, upper mountain hike-to terrain and tree skiing.

MOUNTAIN KNOWLEDGE: The success of the Big Mountain Teams is rooted in the extensive use of the terrain all over the mountain, and having the know-how to make good decisions. The mountain is our greatest teacher, and exposure to more varied terrian keeps the learning - and fun - factors high.

AVALANCHE AWARENESS: Athletes will be introduced to a broad range of terrain and snow conditions including 30+ degree avalanche paths, chutes, cornices, terrain-traps, tree wells and exposure. This immersion into avalanche awareness is designed to fuse the athletes developing skills with the strategy and tactics required to be a successful lifelong skier.

REQUIRED: Joining members must have all-mountain skis, poles, well-fitting boots, and helmet to participate.

The Big Mountain Non Comp ski team is an incredible program that provides both a challenging and fun environment for young skiers to improve their skills. My daughter's skiing progressed tremendously in our first season, and she made great friends along the way. Her little sister was even so impressed that we'll be eagerly signing them both up for the upcoming season.

Jeremy, member since 2023

Watching my daughter grow up and thrive in Big Mountain has been truly remarkable. The program has not only honed her technical skills but also instilled a deep sense of confidence in skiing all terrain and conditions. She has become an adept skier, confidently taking on everything from moguls and steeps, to crushing pow off the ridge with total enthusiasm.

Michael, member since 2019
